23 of 24 people found the following review helpful Is well build but needs a damper!, January 25, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: RAM-B-316-1-AP8: RAM POD I Universal No-Drill Vehicle Mount for iPad (Electronics) I bought this and installed it in my 96 Honda civic. It is sturdily built, and was a snap to install. Its pretty easy to loosen the wingnut on the back and shift between portait and landscape, and holds the iPad far enough away from the passenger to be comfortable. Its also fairly easy to undo the wingnut enough to remove the plastic bracket and stash it, leaving only the gooseneck in view, throwing potential criminals off the scent (I live in an urban environment where this is a concern).
I have 2 complaints:
1. While it holds an unprotected iPad very securely, you need to remove your case every time, which, with an Otterbox, is annoying.
2. It NEEDS a damper. Its got a mass, its got a spring, it needs a damper! The long, rigidly fixed gooseneck arm holding the relatively heavy ipad at the end tends to propogate vibrations. So much so that, without the screen lock, the ipad can switch from portait to landscape to portait while shaking. I plan on installing a... Read more
16 of 17 people found the following review helpful Excellent Solution with a couple of tweaks, April 29, 2011 By Mike A "Mike" (NY) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: RAM-B-316-1-AP8: RAM POD I Universal No-Drill Vehicle Mount for iPad (Electronics) I bought this holder so I would have a place to mount my iPad in my new Audi A4. The first thing I noticed when I got the package is that the support arm is solid aluminum and needs to be bent to shape. This is a difficult thing to do (but not impossible) without a vice (so be forewarned). The second problem, is the base is supposed to be secured using a bolt from the seat railing. Well the A4 doesn't have any bolts in the seat railing and there was no way I was going to drill a hole in the floor board of my new $45,000 car. What I did instead was to slide the baseplate between the seat railing of my passenger seat and the hump that it meshes up against. I then used a piece of metal as a shim to tighten the fit and a plastic clip to hold everything in place. This allowed me to install the mount without making any permanent modifications to my car. The only other challenge was to better secure the mount higher up where the weight of the iPad would sit. Another reviewer mentioned that... Read more
18 of 20 people found the following review helpful Exactly what was needed for 2003 Honda Accord, January 13, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: RAM-B-316-1-AP8: RAM POD I Universal No-Drill Vehicle Mount for iPad (Electronics) So, you're probably thinking, why do I need an iPad in my car?
Here is the answer: Because it's cool.
I use it as a 9.7" GPS with Navigon, and it is nice to have a screen that I don't have to squint to read, since I'm getting up there in years, and the iPhone really didn't work too well hanging from the windshield. The other factor is there are windshield mounts available, but with the size car, blocking the field of view seems to be an bad option as well.
This looked to be the best way to have an iPad mount in the car, and it sits below the windshield, out of the passenger's way as well. By the way, I have it in the landscape position, rather than the portrait shown in the picture; the mounting hardware allows either and is self-explanatory.
It looks and feels like the people that made it cared about the design; the pieces are strong, well made, and appear to be build for lasting a long time (I don't anticipate any broken plastic). It also... Read more
